Stephan K. Thieringer, Ph.D.
Biography
Stephan is a nationally renowned innovation strategist, business thinker, and executive
coach. Stephan’s diverse work in technology, venture capital, education technology and
hospitality has earned him several personal and team recognitions.
Stephan is a 2019 Future of Leadership Salon thought leader and under his leadership the Human
Innovation Garage was recognized in 2018 as a Top 30 Innovative visionary small business in the
United States. In 2012 Thieringer was awarded the World Education Award for “Visionary
Leadership In Impacting Economic Development”. This global impact award recognizes
visionary leaders and the introduction of innovative learning technologies and business models.
Thieringer was a MIT Global Strategy advisor from 2005 until 2012 and an ELES Africa
Ambassador in 2011. He was named a 2008 CXO finalist of the MTLC Leadership Award, being
selected as one of the State’s Leaders in Innovation and Economic Impact. Thieringer is a
founding executive committee member of the Open Educational Resources for Cancer
Consortium, hosted at CSU. In 2008 Stephan was presented with the acclaimed USDLA Mobile
Innovations Award, recognizing innovative platform technologies in support of long distance,
asynchronous and online learning.
From 1997 to 1999 Stephan worked with the standardization workgroup of IEEE establishing
international interoperability standards of learning environments. Thieringer was recognized as
part of the team of recipients of the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige Award for total quality
management in 1992.
Stephan is a Forbes™ Council Member, a TIE Charter Member, and he dedicates his personal
time to several non-profit organizations such as Founder Institute and also engages on various
executive boards. Stephan is a native of Stuttgart, Germany and currently resides in Boston.
